Lebanon, Ill. - The Quincy University women's basketball team fell to the McKendree Bearcats on Thursday (Feb. 8) after a hot, three-game winning streak. After forty minutes of play, the Hawks finished 74-68 in the Melvin Price Convocation Center.
The Hawks kept it close with the GLVC-topping Bearcats through the first quarter. Quincy went just under .500 from the field in the first quarter, one of their better starts of the season. Six Hawks added to the 17 points the Hawks put on the board, led by junior
Karsyn Stratton.
The Hawks kept pace with back-to-back three pointers in the second quarter from
Mikayla Huffine and
Mariann Blass and three mid-range jumpers from
Cymirah Williams. But it was the third quarter that gave the Hawks confidence over the number one seeded Bearcats. Behind Williams' eight points, Quincy was also able to limit McKendree to 16 points, allowing the Hawks to take the lead heading into the final quarter.
The Bearcats sank a three pointer at the start of the fourth to flip the script back in their favor. For every basket the Hawks made, the Bearcats added one as well. Bonus free throws pushed the Bearcats closer to victory as the quarter drained.
The Hawks look to get back in the win column with a rematch against the Missouri-St. Louis Tritons on Saturday, February 10th. The game will be in St. Louis.
