Box Score QUINCY, Ill. - The Quincy University women's tennis team kicked off the 2024 Spring season with a tough test, hosting the #21 team in all the land in the Griffons of Missouri Western State on Friday (Feb. 10) afternoon at the Quincy Racquet Club. MWSU retained its perfect record, defeating Quincy by a 7-0 score.
The pairing of
Blanca Salas Cruz and
Mahi Panchal claimed the Hawks lone victory of the day, taking down the pairing of Peralta and Macgibbon 6-3 to continue their hot streak as the fifth ranked doubles team in the Midwest Region.
Other double results saw the tandem of
Katrin Ismailova and
Anna Matino dropped their match to Chavez and Langiu by a 3-6 score and the pairing of
Mar Sarda Marti and
Ana Alvarez fell 2-6 to Saez and Casas Blas.
In singles action, Sarda Marti fell to Peralta in a tightly contested match, dropping the first set 2-6 before taking the second 6-4, forcing a third set that went in favor of the Griffons.
Salas Cruz dropped another tight match that didn't bounce Quincy's way, losing the first set 3-6 before getting it right back with a 6-3 winner in the second set, followed by another tough third set loss to Casas Blas.
Katrin Ismailova dropped her match to Saez, falling 3-6 in set one and dropping the second set in a tiebreak 6-7.
Steffi Lao was done in by Macgibbon (4-6, 4-6),
Mahi Panchal was bested by Chavez (3-6, 3-6) and
Anna Matino was outdone by Granero Boj (2-6, 1-6) to round out the competition.
Next up for the Hawks is a trip down to St. Louis to take on Missouri Baptist University on Friday (Feb. 16). First serve is slated for 2:00 PM.
