St. Louis, Mo. - The Quincy University men's swim team competed in their final dual of the calendar year against the University of Missouri St. Louis Tritons on Saturday afternoon (Dec. 7). The Hawks fell 119-82 to the highly-regarded Great Lakes Valley Conference foe.
The Hawks started the meet just a second off from the Tritons in the 200-yard medley relay.
Brendan Worster,
Juri Bauer,
Martiniano Montero, and
Jordan Settumba swam a 1:36.11 time in the event. The Hawks had a few near misses for first place throughout the meet.
Lucca Arantes and
Victor Abram were .15 and .67 seconds, respectively, from UMSL's top swimmer in the 200 freestyle. Settumba was just a second off from having the top 100 freestyle time at 48.52.
Wojciech Chalat was the first Hawk to break the first place barrier with a first place finish in the 1,000 yard freestyle with a 10:11.20 time.
Denislav Koykov and Montero went back-to-back in events with top finishes. Montero secured the first place spot with a 21.66 second swim in the 50 freestyle. Koykov broke the record in the 100-yard IM for the Hawks at 52.81 seconds.
Wyatt Walsh rounded out the Hawks' top finishes with a 4:43.54 time in the 500 freestyle, nearly fifteen seconds faster than the next finisher in the heat.
Quincy finished the meet with the 200-yard freestyle relay. The quad of Ian Caallero, Montero, Walsh, and Koykov swam a second-place worthy 1:27.73 time to complete their 2024 run.
"We made some great improvements in our racing but still have a bit to go," said Head Coach
Bryan Christiansen. "It's a distracting time with finals next week but we held together very well compared to where we marked ourselves a year ago!"
