LEXINGTON, Ky. - Two Hawks were named to the AVCA All-America teams announced by the American Volleyball Coaches Association on Wednesday morning (Dec 11).
Emma Wijnbergen was tabbed as a first team selection while
Susanna Beretti garnered honorable mention status.
In addition, Wijnbergen was also named to the D2CCA All-America first team, announced by the DII Conferece Commissioners Association on Wednesday afternoon.
Wijnbergen capped off an historic career by tying the Quincy all-time career kills record of 1678 in her final match of the season to conclude 2024 with 601 kills, a feat only three players in DII accomplished this year. The Meerlo, Netherlands native also holds the new QU and GLVC records for kills in a single season while ranking inside the top five in DII in kills, kills per set and points per set. The All-America selection is the second of Wijnbergens career, following an AVCA nod from a season ago.
Beretti burst onto the scene this season, commanding national attention and acclaim for her performance in her sophomore season that saw her up her kill count by nearly 200, now ranking inside the top-10 nationally with 478 kills. In addition, Beretti was nationally ranked in kills per set and points per set while also landing her way into the top 10 in the GLVC in aces, aces per set and total digs, proving the great strides made in her overall game from her freshman to sophomore season.
The selections make it a third straight year of All-America representation for QU under Head Coach
Mark Jones, earning one selection in 2022 and a pair in both 2023 and this season in 2024.
