Dollard's Career Day Propels Hawks to Final Conference Win

Bolivar, Mo. - The Quincy University football team beat the Bearcats of Southwest Baptist University on Saturday (Nov. 9). Teon Dollard had a career 236 rushing yards and three touchdowns to help the Hawks to a 34-25 victory over the Bearcats.

The Hawks scored on their first drive of the day, starting from their six-yard line. Dollard ran 60 of the 94 yards down the field to give the Hawks the lead. The Bearcats tied things up on the next drive.

Southwest Baptist took the lead in the second quarter on a 70-yard long toss on just their second play of the drive, but it wasn't long until the Hawks got back in front. Quarterback Drake Davis turned to his arm for the next drive, completing three passes to get to the eight-yard line. Dollard ran for seven yards and Davis finished the drive taking the ball over the goal line himself.

The Hawks took the final two minutes of the second quarter inching their way to the end zone. Davis stuck with small passes to the Hawks receiving line, but the Bearcats worked well under pressure to keep the Hawks away from red zone. Head Coach Jason Killday relied on Michael Owens to take a 41-yard field goal in the final ten seconds of the half. Owens completed the kick, helping the Hawks to only trail two points at halftime.

Owens made another 36-yard field goal to start the second half, giving the Hawks a one-point lead. Quincy surged in the third quarter, scoring 17 more points on the Bearcats. Dollard went on a run on the Hawks' next drive, going 85 yards on the first play to extend the lead.

Owens decided on an onside kickoff that proved successful for the Hawks. Kareem Carswell gained some ground for the Hawks before Davis sent the ball long to Anthony Gilpin, Jr., to get the Hawks near the end zone. Two short rushes for Dollard put the Hawks up 15 at the end of the third quarter.

A fumble recovery in the fourth quarter gave way to the final touchdown of the game, this time in favor of the Bearcats. The Hawks held on for eight more minutes, winning their final conference game of the season.

Brock Wiley led the Hawks with five tackles, four solo, and one pass breakup. Matt Austin had a day on defense with four tackles and one sack for 14 yards of loss. The Hawks forced the Bearcats quarterback into pressure nine times.

The Hawks will finish their regular season next weekend in St. Joseph, Missouri, at Missouri Western State University.
