DECORAH, Iowa. - The QU women's wrestling team kept the good times rolling with a another strong finish this week, this time at the Luther College Open on Saturday (Nov. 9).
Maddy Barton spearheaded the Quincy effort with a 1st-place finish in the 138 division as 10 total Hawks placed with six of them being podium finishes.
Barton swept through her division with relative ease, winning every match by fall or technicality with four tech falls and one fall on her way to the 138 championship title where she only allowed her opponents just five total points over her five matches.
Mackenzie Graves and Madisyn Crawford turned in second-place finishes in the 103 and 180 divisions, respectively. Graves used a pair of falls and a decision to reach the championship before falling by 6-2 decision to Emaline Hicks of Simpson. Crawford reached the 180 title match thanks to three falls and a bye before dropping the championship by fall to Anya Hatch of Southest CC.
Other podium finishes came by way of
Sereena Baca (3rd 110), Alexandra Tchekounova (3rd 117) and
Ana Gutierrez (3rd 207) while the Hawk remaining placers were
Vianey Hernandez (6th 103),
Trinity Donovan (6th 145),
Jayla Jones (6th 180) and
Sophia Sosa (7th 160).
The Hawks are back at it next Sunday (Nov. 17) at the Lindenwood Duals hosted by Lindenwood University. Action in St. Charles, MO is set to start at 9:00 AM.
