Box Score Decatur, Ill. - The Quincy University women's tennis team was back in action on Wednesday (Oct. 9), traveling to Millikin to take on the Big Blue. The Hawks flourished in their first win of the fall season, never dropping a set while only losing 10 total games in a dominant 7-0 victory to improve to 1-2.
Mahi Panchal got the good time rolling, taking her 1's singles match over Emily Markus (6-1, 6-1).
Katrin Ismailova added another victory in her 2's match, defeating Cristina Borunda in straight sets (6-1, 6-0). The pairing of Panchal-Ismailova also found success in doubles action, coming away with a 6-4 winner.
Ana Alvarez soundly defeated Kaitlyn Mullins in their 3's match by a 6-0, 6-1 score as
Anna Matino also found success in her 4's match, taking down Addi Ross (6-1, 6-1). The tandem of Alvarez-Matino also added a squeaky clean 6-0 doubles match victory to claim the doubles point for the Hawks.
Nora Hennessy and
Brittney Kelly earned points for QU in the 5's and 6's singles matches, both securing an automatic victory due to a lack of players competing for Millikin. In addition, the pairing of Hennessy-Kelly did not play a match in doubles action due to the same circumstances.
Next Up
With the fall season rapped up, the Hawks now have a long break ahead, spanning over much of the winter months before resuming the schedule with the spring slate starting in February. QU will open up the spring campaign against the Saints of Maryville on Saturday (Feb. 9) in Quincy with a TBA time designation at the time of this writing.
