Quincy, Ill. - The Quincy University men's swim team hosted the St. Ambrose University Bees on Saturday afternoon (Oct. 26) at the Bank of Springfield Aquatic Center. The Hawks took over some very good swimmers from St. Ambrose and took down the Bees 116-88.5.
The Hawks started off with four straight first place finishes in the 200 medley relay, the 1000 freestyle, the 200 freestyle, and the 50 freestyle. The quad of
Brendan Worster,
Juri Bauer,
Martiniano Montero, and
Ian Caballero finished in 1:35.49.
Denislav Koykov swam the second fastest 1000 freestyle time in program history with his first place finish at 9:51.21.
Victor Abram finished first in the 200 free at 1:44.06 and
Jordan Settumba rounded out the first four events with a 21.93 swim.
Wyatt Walsh also gave the Hawks some much needed points by getting second in the 200 free, just .5 seconds behind Abram. Koykov and
Jackson Rerick went one and two in the 100 freestyle as well, posting 46.32 and 48.39 times respectively.
Worster earned a first place nod in the 100 backstroke, swimming his way into the top-five list with a 53.71.
Lucca Arantes also swam his way into the top-ten with a 5:00.82 time in the 500 freestyle.
Bauer and Montero picked up points for the Hawks in non-freestyle events. Bauer swam a 1:00.55 100 breaststroke and Montero swam the 100 butterfly in 52.33.
"St. Ambrose is a stellar opponent that I never thought we'd beat two years ago and to win on both sides today is a huge accomplishment," said head coach
Bryan Christiansen. "We still have work to do to be competitive in our conference but beating a very good St. Ambrose team and to see some pool records fall and solidify our program is a big shot in the arm."
The Hawks have a little break before competing again at the Drury Invitational November 8th-9th.
