Hawks Set Program Record with 42 Points; Defeat Oakland City in Regular Season Finale

Quincy, Ill. - The Quincy University sprint football team ended its regular season with a 42-14 victory over Oakland City University on Saturday night at QU Stadium, setting a program record for points in a game.

Quincy had its best passing effort of the season, with a season-high 276 yards through the air. Junior quarterback Nick Manzo threw for a season-high 196 yards on 18-of-24 passing, including his first touchdown pass of the season.

QU's defense struck first with a 15-yard interception return for a touchdown by Austin Moore late in the first quarter, giving the Hawks a 6-0 lead. Quincy scored its first two touchdowns on defense and special teams, as CJ Jackson added a 70-yard punt return early in the second quarter to extend the lead to 13-0.

Oakland City cut the deficit to 13-8 after a three-play, 15-yard drive, and a successful two-point conversion with 4:21 remaining in the second quarter. The Hawks took a five-point lead into halftime.

Quincy responded by scoring 29 unanswered points, beginning with a two-play, 51-yard drive capped by a 45-yard touchdown run from Jackson to make it 21-8. The Hawks then put together back-to-back seven-play drives, with Manzo finding Brandon Black in the end zone from 12 yards out to increase the lead to 28-8 with 6:04 left in the third.

Quincy added another score on their longest drive of the game, a seven-play possession ending with a Hector Ramirez three-yard touchdown run with one second left in the third quarter, giving the Hawks a 35-8 advantage heading into the fourth.

After Manzo played a majority of the game, Deuce Allaway entered as QB and connected with Gregory Quince for a 17-yard touchdown pass, extending the Hawks' lead to 42-8 with 5:18 remaining. The Mighty Oaks scored a late touchdown with under two minutes left, but QU secured the win by a comfortable four-touchdown margin.

The Hawks finished with 396 total yards and only punted once. Their 42 points marked the highest single-game total in program history. Quincy averaged 24.0 points per game this season, surpassing their previous bests of 20.0 in 2023 and 17.14 in 2022.

Up Next:

Quincy finished the regular season 2-4, sitting fourth in the MFSL standings. The Hawks hold tiebreakers over Oakland City and Walsh but not Midway. A Walsh victory next week would secure Quincy's postseason berth, while a Midway win would eliminate them.
