Quincy Locks Down on Rockhurst in 3-1 Victory

Quincy, Ill. - The Quincy University women's soccer team prevailed on Sunday (Oct. 13) in a 3-1 victory over the Rockhurst Hawks.

The Quincy Hawks played the windy weather well, and chose to play with the wind in the first half, locking in the Rockhurst Hawks for 45 minutes. After three shots, Quincy got on the board, courtesy to an Ella Wolfard bullet to the upper ninety. Alayna Vela played the ball through to Wolfard who cut back on the defender and sent the ball to the back of the net.

Rockhurst bounced back quickly after stealing the ball off the Quincy defense at the top of the box.

Just three minutes later, Quincy came back to take the lead. Wolfard powered a shot near post off a corner kick forcing the Rockhurst netminder to rebound the ball straight to Reegan Hess who stabbed it into the side netting.

Quincy found the net once more in the first half, this time from freshman Belle Dehner. Dehner took the ball to goal and while unbalanced, struck the ball at the net and scored her first Quincy goal.

The Quincy Hawks struggled to get out of their defensive half in the second half, but their defense prospered under the pressure. Rockhurst took sixteen shots in the second half but none were worthy of a goal. Isabella Arato, Emme Kirn, Abby Jerszynski, and Dehner took a beating in the second half, blocking six shots.

Julia Mincher played between the pipes for the Quincy Hawks and saved eight shots.

The Hawks travel to Missouri S&T on Friday for a critical game against the Miners. Quincy sits tied with the Miners for 9th place in the GLVC after Sunday's contest.
