Quincy, Ill. - The Quincy University men's soccer team took on the Bearcats of Southwest Baptist University on Friday night (Oct. 11). A back post goal from freshman
Leo Cann secured the Hawks' 1-0 victory.
The Hawks powered through the Bearcats defense early on, taking three shots on net in the first five minutes.
Carlos Moreno Henao had a golden opportunity for a goal off a corner kick when he hit the ball low to the post, but a Bearcat was there to block it.
Leo Cann received the ball from
Grant Buer, dribbled right, and took a shot to the left post to give the Hawks the lead 35 minutes into the game. This is the Quincy native's third goal this season and second game-winner after last weekend's thrilling hustle goal at Truman State.
The Bearcats came out with more force in the second half, both in physicality and in shot-taking.
George Roke made seven saves in the second half, including a last-chance kick save at the start of the half and a missile off the chest. Roke secured his second shutout of the season this evening, with help from Marcel Kasper who blocked a shot in the final minutes of the game off a late corner kick.
The Hawks move to seventh place in the Great Lakes Valley Conference after this evening's contest. Quincy looks to build on their two-game win streak and will host Rockhurst University on Sunday, October 13th. The game will be at 2:30 p.m.
The Hawks will also honor the 1964 men's soccer team at Sunday's contest.
