Fight in Inclement Weather Leads Hawks to First Tie

Kearney, Neb. - The Quincy University women's soccer team battled many lightning delays before securing its first tie of the season against Eastern New Mexico on Sunday (Sept. 10).

:Lightning delays often result in a loss of focus across many teams, but not for the Hawks. Quincy created four corner kick opportunities in the first half while Lisa Albarran gave Quincy the lead in the 11th minute off with a header in the final corner kick of the half. The Hawks rode the lead through the end of the half.

The Greyhounds responded after halftime with a goal themselves. With the score tied, both teams were sent back to shelter for another rain delay. Tensions rose back on the field with a very physical second half. Play went back and forth between the teams, with goals alternating between the Hounds and the Hawks. The Hounds took the lead in the 87th minute but just a minute later, the Hawks evened the score off another corner kick.

The Hawks scored all three goals off corner kicks, Paige Nguyen scoring the final two. Julia Mincher started in net, making 5 saves in the contest.

The Hawks play their first home game and conference opponent on Friday, September 15th at 5pm.
