QUINCY, Ill.– The Quincy University baseball team fell 5-2 in the second game of the Midwest Super Regional on Saturday at QU Stadium which concluded the Hawks postseason run and historic season.
Quincy got on the board first with a
Joe Huffman RBI double to right center. The Greyhounds then took a 2-1 lead in the fifth on a 2 RBI single. Dustin DuPont then tied the game in the next half inning with a solo shot to left field.
The Greyhounds struck in the late innings again with two runs in the 7
th and one in the 8
th to take a 5-2 lead.
The Hawks got the tying run to the plate in the top of the ninth inning, but ultimately fell short on a flyout to center to end the game.
The Hawks tied a NCAA DII Record when they hit their 131
st home run of the season. The mark ties West Georgia (1998) for the most home runs ever hit in a DII baseball season. Quincy also set a new program record in wins and captured the program's fifth GLVC Championship in Matt Schissel's second year as head coach.
