SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – The Hawks wrapped up play at the University of Illinois –Springfield Invitational with two games on Sunday, March 5th. They battled the Purdue Northwest Pride in game 1 and defeated them 8-5. QU turned around and battled Hillsdale for the 2nd time for the weekend and came out with the win by the score of 3-1.
Game 1 vs Purdue Northwest
The Pride started the scoring in the bottom of the 1st plating 2 runs. In the top of the 2nd, Allyson Maynard singled to center field that scored Ashley Gerber. Also in the inning, Madeline Ruzicka hit a sacrifice fly to right field to score Jayle Jennings to tie the game at 2.
The Hawks would have to fight from behind once more as PNW made it 5-2 through 4 innings. In the 5th, Taylor Downen singled to center which brought home Hurley to make it 5-3. Brooklyn Fischer also singled up the middle to score Lindsey Fischer which made it 5-4 Pride.
QU took advantage of three PNW errors which helped them take a 7-5 lead. Jennings made it 8-5 with an RBI single up the middle.

Game 2 vs Hillsdale
In the opening inning of the final game for the weekend, Gerber got the scoring started as she reached on an error by the 3rd baseman to score Hurley.
Casey Brennan reached on another Charger error in the 2nd inning, which brought home Isabella Shields and Allison Kaiser to make it 3-0 Hawks. Hillsdale spoiled the shutout with a solo home run in the top of the 7th.
Brynn Krutmeier, getting her first career start in the circle, also picked up her first career win. She went the distance, giving up 3 hits, only one run. The Quincy native struck out 4, while issuing two walks.
