SAINT LOUIS, Mo. – The women's lacrosse team hit the road for the first time in the 2023 season in non-conference play against the Maryville University Saints on Sunday, February 19th. The Saints would take an 8-1 lead in the opening quarter and never looked back as they won by the score of 19-8.
After the Saints scored 31 seconds into the contest, Bianca Johnson tied the game just two minutes later. Unfortunately for the Hawks, Maryville would score the next 9 goals to take a 10-1 lead early in the 2nd quarter.
Patricia Chavira converted on a man-up opportunity to make it 10-2. Both teams traded goals over the next two minutes as Mikenna Ham made it 11-3. The Saints would hold the 14-3 lead at the halftime break.
QU would string three goals together late in the 3rd quarter as Chavira and Josie Szamanda cut the lead to 9 at 15-6.
Chavira would score her fourth of the contest with under five minutes to go in the final stanza. Emily Lead scored with three minutes left to make it 18-8.
The Hawks will have two weeks off as the Northern Michigan University Wildcats come to QU Stadium on March 5th for a 1:00 p.m. start.
