SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Hawks continued their opening season Florida trip with a midweek contest against the Saint Leo University Lions on Tuesday, February 14
th. QU continued its hot start as they put up 5 runs in the top of the 3
rd inning and won the game by the score of 10-2.
In that five run third inning, the Hawks took advantage of two hit by pitches and a walk to load the bases.
Lance Logsdon hit a sac fly to right center that brought home
JD Ortiz.
Luke Napleton followed that up with a 2 RBI double to left center to make it 3-0 Hawks. After a Lion pitching change,
Nolan Wosman brought home Napleton on an RBI single and Brock Boyton doubled down the right field line that scored Wosman.
After Saint Leo scored a run in their half of the 4
th, Logsdon hit an RBI single to center field that brought home
Gino D'Alessio and
Logan Voth to make it 7-1 Hawks.
Dustin Dupont hit his first home run as a Hawk in the top of the 9
th with a 3-run blast to right field to give the Hawks more cushion at 10-1.
Kobe Essien got the win as he went 5 innings in his first start of the season, which also tied for the longest appearance in his QU career. Essien struck out 6, allowed two walks, one hit and one run.
