TAMPA, Fla. – The University of Tampa Spartans (4-1) showed their toughness and fight in the 2nd game of the series against the Quincy University Hawks (1-1). The Spartans put 8 runs on the Hawks in the 2nd inning and never looked back as they took the game by the score of 14-2.
Tampa got to Hawk starter
Jay Hammel in the 2nd inning as they scored three runs on four hits and a walk.
Tyler Carpenter got the call from the bullpen, but the Spartans scored five more runs off of Carpenter.
The Spartans added 2 more runs in the bottom of the 3rd inning on 2 hits. Tampa's offense kept the pressure on the Hawks as they plated three more runs in the bottom of the 4th.
QU got on the board in the top of the 7th with an RBI single by
Zach Parks. UT wrapped up their offensive day with a run on a wild pitch in their half of the 7th inning. The Hawks added a run in the top of the 9th on an RBI groundout by
Dustin Dupont.
The teams square off in the rubber game of the series on Sunday, February 12th with first pitch scheduled for 11:00 a.m.
