Women's Basketball Downed by Arrows

Box Score Quincy, Ill. - The Quincy University women's basketball team finished the GLVC/GMAC Crossover against Ursuline College Saturday night (Nov. 11). Despite a high-scoring third quarter, the Hawks could not finish the weekend with a win, and lost 77-60.

The Hawks were pumped for the 7 pm showing on Saturday night with a large crowd in attendance. So much so, that the Hawks ran with a lead for the first few minutes of play. The Arrows took over and extended their lead with a deep three. It was not long before the Hawks took back the lead with three pointer from Taya Stevenson and finished the quarter shooting over 50 percent and with the lead.

The second quarter did not fair the same as the first. The Hawks had ten turnovers in the second, leading to fifteen points for the Arrows. Three different Hawks added tallies to the scorebook, but the Hawks were under by 14 going into the second half.

The halftime was enough for the Hawks to regroup for the third quarter, cutting the first half deficit in half. The Hawks were over 50 percent again in the third, with nearly half of their points coming off the bench. Excitement and energy grew from the bench with each call and point in Quincy's favor. The Hawks rocked the bonus in the third quarter, scoring nine points from free throws alone. Cymirah Williams led the Hawks this quarter with six points and four rebounds.

The final quarter of play was crucial for the Hawks, who proved in the third that they could chip away at the deficit and come back. The Hawks fell victim to turnovers again, giving the ball to the Arrows five times. Despite little bursts of scoring from the Hawks, they could not get closer to the Arrows, who at one point were up by nineteen points. The Hawks finished with twelve points of their own in the fourth.

Williams recorded her first double-double of the season with 11 rebounds and 16 points.

The Hawks will host the Hansen Spear Classic next weekend (Nov. 17-18), facing Hillsdale College at 7pm on Friday.
