Box Score 2 QUINCY, Ill. - The Quincy University women's tennis team split its two weekend contests against Newman University and Missouri Valley College on Friday and Saturday (Oct. 6-7). Falling to the Jets of Newman (5-2) on Friday afternoon and soundly defeating the Vikings of Missouri Valley (7-0) to forage a .500 record for the weekend.
Friday Match vs Newman
The Hawks found success in doubles, winning two of the three matches that took place.
Mahi Panchal and
Blanca Salas Cruz took down Zeikidze and Bono (6-3) along with the pairing of
Steffi Lao and
Mar Sarda Marti defeating the NU team of Feillon and Ceikidze (6-0) to claim the two Quincy victories in doubles.
Anna Matino and
Ana Alvarez dropped their match with Lolli and Brunet (1-6) to round out doubles action.
Sarda Marti was the sole winner in singles competition for Quincy, outdoing Zeikidze (6-2, 6-1) to claim a point for QU. In other singles matches, Panchal dropped a tight one to Isabaeya (7-5, 1-6, [2]).
Salas Cruz was defeated by Bona (4-6, 7-5, [5]) along with a loss for
Katrin Ismailova to Feillon (6-7 [4] 3-6). Lao was outdone by Zeikidze (6-2, 4-6, [11]) and Alvarez dropped her match (6-3, 2-6, [5]) to Ramos to end the singles matches.
Saturday Match vs Missouri Valley
The Hawks swept the board in doubles competition, taking all three matches. The pairing of Salas Crus and Panchal won their match over Marchiniock and Martinez (6-2), followed by a winner from Matino and Ismailova (6-2). Lao and Sarda Marti defeated Carbo and and Casas (6-0) to round out the sweep of doubles for Quincy.
QU swept the board once again in singles competition, taking all six of the matches. Panchal defeated Carbo (7-6 [4], 6-1) along with a Lao victory over Marchiniock (6-1, 6-0).
Sarda Marti took down Martinez (6-2, 6-0) and Salas Cruz outdid Brown (6-2, 6-2). Ismailova defeated Casas (6-2, 6-2) and Alvarez took down Gerard (6-1, 6-2) to complete the sweep.
The Hawks are back in action next Saturday (Oct. 14) for a showdown with Western Illinois University at Reservoir Park in Quincy. First serve is slated for 1:00 PM.
