Hawks End Season on High in Romeoville

Romeoville, Ill. - The Quincy University women's soccer team fought through their final game of the season against the fourth-seeded Lewis University, winning on a lone goal Sunday afternoon (Oct. 29).

The Hawks finished their season in the first cold front of the fall season, kicking around in wet and cold conditions. The first half reflected this adjustment, as neither team had much offense and were still finding their groove on the wet turf.

Quincy got comfortable in the second half by finding pockets around the Flyers to get in scoring position. The Hawks finally got on the board in the 60th minute off another tap-in by freshman Isabel Montileone. Lisa Albarran put in the work prior to the goal, serving up some footwork around a defender within the 6-yard box, slotting the ball toward the top of the box straight to Montileone. Albarran leads the Hawks with assists at five, Montileone adds another goal to her pocket, giving her two in her debut season.

The Hawks pressed forward and kept the excitement going when junior Julia Mincher made a key penalty kick save with ten minutes to go to preserve Quincy's final win of the season and preserve her shutout. Mincher ended the season with 69 saves and two shutouts over ten games.

The Hawks fell short of the conference tournament by one win. Yet, the Hawks saw many positive turns from their 2022 campaign. This year, Quincy scored 18 goals over 17 games, averaging a goal per game. In 2022, the Hawks scored 11 total over 16 matches. Last season, only five Hawks contributed to scoring while seven different Hawks put the ball at the back of the net this season, six of which will be returning next season. Captain Ella Wolfard led the Hawks with seven goals.
