Hawks Fall to Nationally-Ranked Greyhounds

Indianapolis, Ind. - The Quincy University men's soccer team started their last weekend of regular season play at the University of Indianapolis, whose Greyhounds were ranked 14th in the nation this week. Quincy fought hard to keep the Greyhounds at bay, but fell 4-1.

The Greyhounds struck fast, scoring their first goal in the 10th minute. Indianapolis brough the ball along the top of the 18-yard box, just to slot it backwards to the near post past goalkeeper George Roke. Roke deterred two shots shortly after the goal, keeping the energy of the Hawks up in the process.

Quincy held on until the final minutes of the first half when a corner kick from Lewis Chapman put the Hawks back into the game. Chapman curled the ball into the goal with his right foot from the corner, causing lots of confusion from the Greyhounds defense. This was Chapman's fourth goal of the season, the second coming off a corner. The Hawks went into the locker room at half tied with the 14th team in the nation.

Both the Hawks and the Greyhounds came out with some ferocity in the second half, though Indianapolis was able to capitalize on it sooner with another goal two minutes into the half. A quick transition led to the one touch rocket to the back post that put the Greyhounds up 2-1 at the start of the second half.

Momentum was hard to create for the Hawks as Indianapolis dominated the rest of the match. The Greyhounds scored two more goals in the game, finishing up 4-1. George Roke finished the game with seven saves.

The Hawks have a fighting chance to make the top-eight for the conference tournament. A win on Sunday against Lewis would give the Hawks ample consideration for a postseason run.
