Springfield, Ill. – The Quincy University Baseball team opened the NCAA Midwest Super-Regional series against the University of Illinois – Springfield Prairie Stars on Friday (5/27). The Hawks blitzed the Prairie Stars by the score of 20-6.
After the first 3 batters reached for the Hawks,
Lance Logsdon hit a 2 RBI single that scored
Dayson Croes and
Luke Napleton to make it 2-0. Quincy made it 4-0 on back-to-back RBI singles by
Zach Parks and
Sebastian Martinez. A
Brock Boynton RBI single made it 5-0 that scored Parks.
In the top of the 2
nd,
Lance Logsdon hit his 35
th career home run to make it 6-0. Late in the inning,
Joe Roscetti reached on a fielder's choice that scored
Nolan Wosman. The Prairie Stars got 2 runs back on an RBI double and fielder's choice to make it 7-2 Hawks.
The offense kept rolling into the 3
rd inning,
Gino D'Alessio doubled through the right side to score Napleton. With 2 runners on,
Lance Logsdon hit a no-doubter over the right field scoreboard to make him the new Quincy University Baseball home run king with 36 career home runs. Logsdon's home run made it 11-2 Hawks.
As the game moved to the top of the 4
th, the Hawks added 5 more runs to their lead. D'Alessio reached on an error that scored Napleton. Logsdon became the career RBI leader with his 2 RBI double to make it 14-2. He now has 159 RBIs in a QU uniform. Wosman followed that up with an RBI single to score Logsdon. Martinez made it 16-2 with a single through the right side to score Wosman.
UIS got a run in the bottom half of the 4
th to make it 16-3. After a quiet 5
th inning, the Hawks scored 2 in the top of the 6
th.
Nolan Wosman hit an RBI single to score D'Alessio. Roscetti added an RBI groundout to make it 18-3 QU. The Prairie Stars made it 18-5 as they scored 2 runs in the bottom of the 7
th.
During the top of the 8
th,
Sebastian Martinez made it 19-5 on an RBI single to score Napleton. The Hawks added their 20
th run of the contest in the 9
th on a bases loaded walk by
Zach Parks.
