Saint Charles, Mo. – The Quincy University Baseball team came into Sunday action of the GLVC Tournament needing to win two games for the conference title. In the morning game against the Lewis Flyers, they won 9-4. That win set up a showdown with the University of Illinois – Springfield Prairie Stars in the championship game. UIS took the championship game by the score of 16-3.
GAME 1 VS LEWIS
Nolan Wosman got the offense started in the bottom of the 2
nd with a moonshot of a home run to left field, his 11
th of the season to make it 2-0 Hawks.
Brock Boynton made it 3-0 on an RBI single to center field that scored
Adam Lewis.
The Flyers got on the board on a single in the top of the 6
th. The Hawks answered with 2 runs in the bottom half of the inning on sac flies by
Luke Napleton and
Dayson Croes to make it 5-1. In the bottom of the 7
th,
Joe Roscetti made it 6-1 with an RBI single through the right side to score Wosman. Then two batters later,
Luke Napleton doubled to left center to score
Sebastian Martinez.
In the Lewis half of the 8
th inning, they used back-to-back singles to make it a 7-4 game. Roscetti got those runs back on a single to center field that scored Martinez and Wosman.
Tyler Carpenter improved to 4-3 on the year. He went a career high 8 innings, striking out 8. The Boulder, Colorado native issued one walk, allowed 8 hits and 4 runs (3 earned).

GAME 2 VS ILLINOIS – SPRINGFIELD
The Prairie Stars got on the board with a Brant Vanaman home run in the top of the 2
nd. In the 3
rd, Brandon Bannon made it 2-0 UIS with a single through the right side. During the Hawk half of the 3
rd,
Dayson Croes hit a sac fly to deep center field that scored
Joe Roscetti.
UIS found their offensive groove with 2 outs in the top of the 5
th inning. Zion Pettigrew singled to right field that scored Nick Mayerhofer. Austin Alderman followed that up with a triple down the left field line to score Pettigrew. Vanaman hit a 3-run home run to left center that made it 8-1 Prairie Stars. After a Hawk pitching change, Hunter Phelps hit a 2-run home run to left center to make it 10-1.
In the top of the 6
th, Alderman singled through the left side that scored Pettigrew. Vanaman added a double to right center to score Alderman which made it 12-1 UIS. During the top of the 8
th, Alderman tripled to center field that scored Pettigrew. Kal Youngquist singled to the shortstop that scored Alderman to make it 14-1. Mayerhofer hit a 2 RBI single to left field to make it 16-1 UIS.
In the bottom of the 9
th, the Hawks would load the bases. With 2 outs,
Dayson Croes singled up the middle which scored
Zach Parks and
Brock Boynton to make it 16-3.
