Hawks Fall to Northwood in Game 1; Defeat Top-Seeded Davenport in Game 2

Caledonia, Mich. – The Quincy University Baseball team opened NCAA Midwest Regional play against the fifth seeded Northwood University Timberwolves on Thursday (5/19) afternoon. Quincy fell by the score of 10-5 in 12 innings. In the 2nd game of the day, they bounced back and defeated Davenport 17-4.

GAME 1 VS NORTHWOOD
The Timberwolves struck first in the top of the 3rd on a sac fly to deep right center field to make it 1-0. In the bottom of the 4th, the Hawks answered with 3 runs of their own. Adam Lewis drew a bases loaded walk to bring home Dayson Croes. The next batter in Joe Roscetti singled to right center that scored Zach Parks and Lance Logsdon to give the Hawks a 3-1 lead.

In the bottom of the 6th, Adam Lewis hit a sac fly to center field that brought home Lance Logsdon to make it 4-1 Hawks. The Hawks added to the lead in the bottom of the 8th with a Zach Parks sac fly to score Gino D'Alessio.

Northwood began the top of the 9th with back-to-back solo home runs to make it a 5-3 game. They would add a 2-run home run to tie the game at 5.
In the top of the 12th, Northwood plated 5 on 3 hits and 2 errors. They sent nine batters to the plate.

GAME 2 VS DAVENPORT
Nolan Wosman got the scoring started in the top of the 2nd with a solo home run to left center field. In the 3rd, Lance Logsdon had an RBI ground out that scored Brock Boynton to make it 2-0. Davenport tied it in the bottom half of the inning.

The Hawks regained their lead in the top of the 4th as they plated 4 runs. With two runners on, Joe Roscetti singled to right field that scored Zach Parks. Boynton followed it up with a 3-run home run to right field to make it 6-2. The offense kept rolling in the 5th as Sebastian Martinez hit a sac fly to left field that scored Wosman. Then, Roscetti doubled to center field that scored Zach Parks to make it 8-2 Hawks.

In the top of the 6th, Lance Logsdon singled to center field that scored Napleton from 2nd to make it 9-2. Zach Parks doubled down the right field line that would score Gino D'Alessio. In the bottom half of the inning, Davenport cut the lead to 10-4 on an RBI single and a ground out. Brock Boynton hit a 2 RBI triple to left center field that scored Roscetti and Martinez in the top of the 7th to make it 12-4 QU. Dayson Croes added an RBI fielder's choice that scored Boynton.

In the top of the 9th, Boynton added his second home run of the game to make it 14-4 Hawks. Lance Logsdon hit a 2-run shot to make it 16-4. That was his 33rd of his career which sits him 2nd all time for career home runs. Wosman added his 2nd home run of the game to make it 17-4.

Jay Hammel got the start for the Hawks. He improves to 9-2 after the complete game effort, striking out 7, allowing 10 hits, 4 runs.
