Hawks Hit 4 Homeruns; Take Series from Cardinals

Quincy, Ill. – The Quincy University Baseball team wrapped up the non-conference series against Saginaw Valley State University on Sunday (5/1) and won by the score of 16-6.

Before the Hawks even stepped to the plate, the Cardinals had a 3-0 lead thanks to a 3-run home run. Quincy's bats came alive in the bottom of the 2nd. Joe Roscetti hit a single to center field that scored Sebastian Martinez. With the bases loaded and 2 outs, Gino D'Alessio hit a grand slam to right field that gave the Hawks a 5-3 lead.

In the bottom of the 3rd, Martinez led off the inning with a triple to center field. Zach Parks produced an effective out that scored Martinez. Brock Boynton hit his first of two home runs in this contest to right field that made it 7-3.

After the Cardinals added a run in the 4th inning, the next few innings were quiet for both sides. In the bottom of the 6th, Luke Napleton hit his team leading 15th home run of the season to make it 8-4 Hawks. Nolan Wosman added a run on a sac fly that scored Dayson Croes.

In the 7th, SVSU added 2 runs on two separate doubles. The Hawks took advantage of miscues and walks in the bottom of the 7th. With the bases loaded, the Cardinals issued consecutive free passes to Napleton and Croes that made it 11-6. With D'Alessio at the plate, Boynton scored on a wild pitch. They would end the inning with a D'Alessio sac fly and a Logsdon RBI groundout. In the bottom of the 8th, Boynton added his 2nd home run of the game that scored Roscetti.
