Starting pitching leads Hawks to Saturday sweep at Lewis

Romeoville, Ill – The Quincy University Baseball team continued their GLVC series against the Lewis Flyers on Saturday (4/9) afternoon with a doubleheader. The Hawks swept the games by scores of 13-0 and 4-2.

GAME 1
The Hawks did not waste any time bouncing back from Friday's loss. They would plate 6 runs on 6 hits, while sending 10 batters to the plate. On the 2nd pitch of the game, Lance Logsdon sent the ball over the right field fence to make it 1-0 Hawks. After a Gino D'Alessio single, Dayson Croes hit a 2-run home run to right field that made it 3-0. The Hawks would load the bases, and Sebastian Martinez drew a walk to make it 4-0. During Logsdon's 2nd at bat of the inning, he singled to right field which scored Brock Boynton and Luke Napleton to make it 6-0.

After a quiet 2nd inning, Sebastian Martinez doubled to right center which scored Napleton. The next batter in, Joe Roscetti hit a sac fly, to score Boynton which made the game 8-0. After Logsdon got hit by a pitch, D'Alessio singled to left field which scored Martinez. Croes came to the plate with 2 runners on and singled to left field to score Logsdon which made the score 10-0 Hawks.

In the 4th inning, facing the Flyers 3rd pitcher of the game, Napleton singled to right field which brought Zach Parks to score. In the 6th inning, Brennan Fisher pinch hit for Roscetti and singled to right field which scored Adam Lewis. This was Fisher's first hit and RBI of the season. In the final frame, Sebastian Martinez reached on an error by the first baseman and that would let Logan Voth come around to score to make it 13-0 Hawks.

Jay Hammel got the start going 5 innings, striking out 8, while only allowing 2 hits. He threw 74 pitches to improve his record to 4-2. Zach Lamari and Alex Aubuchon came on in relief for an inning a piece to close the game.

GAME 2
The Hawks jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the 1st as Zach Parks drew a bases loaded walk, then Luke Napleton got hit by a pitch. In the top of the 6th, Lance Logsdon grounded out to the 2nd baseman which scored Tanner Dreher to make it 3-0.

Starting pitcher Griffin Kirn held a no-hitter through 5.2 before giving up a solo home run in the bottom of the 6th. The last batter he faced doubled down the left field line to make it 3-2. Cruz Meier came in to finish the inning.

The Hawks got an insurance run as Joe Roscetti drew a bases loaded walk to make it 4-2.
