Quincy, Ill. – The Quincy University Baseball team continued their non-conference series against the Saginaw Valley State Cardinals on Saturday (4/30) with a doubleheader. The Hawks won game 1 by the score of 4-1. Saginaw Valley State won a slugfest in game 2 by the score of 16-10.
GAME 1
The Hawks struck first in the bottom of the first.
Dayson Croes and
Luke Napleton would score on wild pitches to make it 2-0 QU.
Zach Parks singled to right center that scored
Gino D'Alessio to give the Hawks a 3-0 lead.
The Cardinals got on the board on a solo home run in the top of the 2
nd. In the bottom half of the inning, D'Alessio singled to right field that scored Napleton.
Jay Hammel improved to 7-2 on the season with the complete game performance. He struck out 7 Cardinals, while allowing 4 hits. This was Hammel's 2
nd complete game in a row.

The Cardinals offense got started early as they jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the 3
rd. In the bottom of the 3
rd, Croes singled to left field that scored
Brock Boynton to make it 4-1 SVSU. The Cardinals added 4 more runs in the 4
th.
Zach Parks would hit his first home run of the season that scored
Nolan Wosman to make it 8-3. Just two batters later,
Joe Roscetti hit a solo home run to right center that made it 8-4. After the Cardinals made it 9-4 in the top of the 5
th,
Lance Logsdon hit a ball over the batters' eye to make it 9-6. This was Logsdon's 32
nd home run of his career, which tied
Josh Rabe for 2
nd all time.
Saginaw Valley State made the lead 14-6 after adding runs in the 6
th and 7
th innings.
Nolan Wosman hit a solo home run to left field that made it 14-7. The Cardinals weren't done as they added 2 more runs in the 8
th inning. D'Alessio hit a 3-run home run over to right field that made it 16-10.
