Romeoville, Ill.—The Quincy University Softball team traveled to Romeoville to take on the Lewis Flyers in a conference doubleheader and got swept by the scores of 5-4 (F/10) and 12-8.
GAME 1
The game would be scoreless until the 3rd inning when both offenses came alive. Allyson Maynard got the Hawks started with an RBI double to right center to score Jayle Jennings. The next batter, Madeline Ruzicka singled up the middle to score Taylor Downen. Casey Brennan rounded out the scoring for the Hawks in the inning with a sac fly to right field that scored Maynard to make it 3-0. Lewis would answer with 3 runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning on two singles and a ground out.
The Hawks would retake the lead in the top of the 4th as Downen reached on a fielder's choice that scored Mykah Hurley. In the bottom of the 7th, Lewis was down to their final strike before they would get an RBI single to force extra innings.
The Flyers would win the game in the 10th on a walk-off RBI single.
GAME 2
Bailey Mitchell got game 2 started on the right path with a 3-run home run to left center. The Flyers would answer with 6 runs in the bottom half of the 1st with a single, two doubles and a home run.
Lewis' offense added 3 more runs in the bottom of the 2nd with an RBI double and a single to make it 9-3. In the top of the 3rd, Madeline Ruzicka would steal home to make it 9-4. Then, Ashley Poore singled to center to score Casey Brennan to make it 9-5. Lewis added another run in the bottom of the 3rd to make it 10-5.
In the 4th inning, Brennan hit a 3-run home run to center field to make it a 10-8 game. Unfortunately for the Hawks, Lewis added two more in the bottom of the inning to make it 12-8.
