KIRKSVILLE, Mo.---The Quincy University baseball team won 9-3 at Truman State on Sunday (April 24) afternoon.
Quincy surrendered a run in the bottom of the first on a double down the left field line, but Quincy tied the score when
Sebastian Martinez hit a double to left center. Quincy added two more runs in the top of the third behind a
Dayson Croes sacrifice fly, and a
Gino D'Alessio RBI single.
Croes was electric for the Hawks this week as he tallied 17 hits, and is a likely candidate for GLVC and national player of the week after QU picked up the GLVC series win over the Bulldogs.
Quincy exploded for four runs in the top of the fourth as
Brock Boynton had a two RBI double, and
Luke Napleton hit a two run home run to left center field to drive him in and give the Hawks a 7-1 lead in the fourth.
Napleton has hit 14 home runs this season, the most a Hawk has hit in a single season since Jeff Hightower had 14 in the 2019 season, and QU still has ten regular season games left.
Croes had another sacrifice fly in the sixth to make it 8-1, but Truman scored via an error in the sixth and a groundout in the seventh to make it 8-3 in favor of QU.
Nolan Wosman had an RBI single in the ninth to give QU as six run lead.
Starter
Michael McDonough went five inning and struck out eight while only surrendering one walk and one hit through 81 pitches.
Brandon Repking and
Eli Ecton pitched scoreless innings out of the bullpen as well.
Next
Quincy will travel to Saint Louis, Missouri on Tuesday (April 26) to face UMSL in a non-conference midweek game.
