Quincy, Ill. - The Quincy University men's lacrosse team welcomed the 18th ranked Colorado Mesa University at QU Stadium on Thursday (Apr. 14). The Hawk's goalie Ryan Riggs broke the school record with 28 saves and helped Quincy hold the lead through the first half. Quincy's offense was unable to score in the second half which led to Quincy's loss, (8-4).
The Hawks scored the first goal of the game when after four minutes into the first period, Blaine Lowrance with a great pass allowed Jordan Ernst to send a bullet to the back of the net to set the score at 1-0.
At the 4:21 mark, Lowrance maneuvered Quincy's second goal of the game from the distance and stretch the lead to 2-0. Colorado Mesa responded with only three seconds left to end the first period and scored a goal to make it 2-1.
Ernst did it again with less than 30 seconds into the second period and a man up, as Gage Evans squeezed a pass to Ernst, who scored his second goal of the game, 3-1.
The Hawks continued to put pressure and at the 10:02 mark, Lowrance found Preston Willman open to collect his second assist of the game, as Willman put the ball in the net to give the Hawks a 4-1 lead. The Mavericks scored two more goals before the end of the period, 4-3.Â
Colorado Mesa had a strong second half scoring five goals to take the lead. The Hawks efforts came up short, as the offense did not score in the entire half and lost the game 8-4.
