CHATHAM, IL---The Quincy University softball team split its double header on Sunday (March 6) against Hillsdale. Quincy dropped the first game 5-1 then followed it up with a 6-3 win in the weekend finale to salvage a series split.
Hillsdale took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first and added a tally in the third and led 3-0. The Hawks scored its lone run in the top of the fourth when
Allyson Maynard came around to score on an error. Hillsdale added two more in a fifth to capture the 5-1 win.
Quincy fell behind 3-0 in game two but put up five runs in the bottom of the fourth highlighted by a
Taylor Downen two RBI single to cap off the scoring in the massive inning for QU.
Quincy added one more in the bottom of the sixth and took home the three run win as the three runs in the top of the third were the only runs allowed by the Hawks in game 2.
Downen paced the offense in game two behind a 3-4 performance with 3 RBI while
Jayle Jennings threw a complete game and did not surrender an earned run.
