Quincy, Ill.—The Quincy University Men's Volleyball team hosted the Purdue Fort Wayne Mastadons in MIVA action on Thursday evening (3/31) and lost 3 sets to none (25-13, 25-21, 25-20).
In the 1
st set, the Mastadons jumped out to a 7-2 lead and never looked back. The Hawks got to within 4 points at 9-5. During the middle of the set, Purdue Fort Wayne went on a 6-1 run to extend their lead out to 15-6. Ultimately, they would take the 1
st set by the score of 25-13. The Mastadons would commit only 3 errors during the set and hit .393.
The 2
nd set was a much different story. Both teams would trade points in the early part of the set. The Hawks jumped ahead at 5-3, but the Mastadons tied the match at 7. Quincy had 3-point lead late in the set at 17-14. From that point on, Purdue Fort Wayne finished the set on an 11-4 run to win. The Hawks held the better hitting percentage with a .364, while the Mastadons were at .357.
During the 3
rd set, the Hawks would tie the score at 8 after trailing a few different times by 3 points. Quincy clawed back to within one point at 13-12, but the Mastadons scored the next 3 points. Eventually, the lead would grow to as many as 5 at 18-13 and 20-15. The Mastdons took the 3
rd set by the score of 25-20 to win the match. Purdue Fort Wayne hit an impressive .400 totaling 15 kills.
