Hawks Split Saturday Doubleheader Versus Illinois-Springfield

QUINCY, IL---The Quincy University Hawks split its doubleheader against Illinois-Springfield on Saturday (March 26) at QU Stadium. Quincy took game one 11-6 then fell in game two 8-3. 

Game 1
The Quincy Hawks surrendered a three run home run in the top of the third to fall behind 3-0, but responded with a massive six run frame, which included five two out hits to give QU a three run lead. Dayson Croes led the Hawks in that frame with two hits including a triple to start the big inning. 

The Prairie Stars tallied one run in the top of the third, but the Hawks got to the Prairie Stars bullpen and added two more run in the bottom of the third to take a 7-4 lead. Quincy added two more in the fifth and one in the sixth and led 11-4 before UIS plated two runs off QU in the 7th and final inning. Tyler Carpenter pitched a complete game for the Hawks and allowed six earned runs while he recorded seven strikeouts. 

Joe Roscetti went 3-3 at the plate, while Gino D'Alessio, Dayson Croes, and Tanner Dreher each had two hits. Andrew Buescher and Dreher each hit home runs for the Hawks who totaled 14 hits during the game. 

Game 2
The Quincy Hawks fell behind 1-0 in the first after walking in a run, but Luke Napleton gave QU a 2-1 lead on a two RBI single in the bottom of the first. The Prairie Stars tied the game on a home run and took the lead on a wild pitch in the fifth, and extended their lead to 4-2 after adding a run in the top of the sixth. Quincy made it 4-3 after they plated a run in the bottom of the sixth, but the Prairie Stars bullpen standed Hawks runners in the sixth to get out of the jam. UIS added four runs in the seventh and walked away with a five run win over QU. 

Luke Napleton had went 2-3 with two RBI, and Alex Pribyl worked five innings and allowed three earned runs while he recorded nine strikeouts.

The series finale will happen tomorrow afternoon (March 27) at 1:00 PM (QU Stadium).
