Quincy, Ill.—The Quincy University Hawks baseball team kicked off GLVC play by hosting the #13 University of Illinois-Springfield Prairie Stars and took game 1 by the score of 7-5.
The offense got started in a hurry as
Lance Logsdon took the first pitch thrown by Colton Hale and sent it over the right field wall for his 5
th home run of the season. The Prairie Stars answered back in the top of the 2
nd with two solo home runs to give them the 2-1 lead.
In the bottom of the 3
rd, Quincy would add four runs. Logsdon led off the inning on his 2
nd solo home run of the game. After sacrifice fly by
Dayson Croes,
Luke Napleton sent a ball over the left field wall to give the Hawks a 5-2 lead. UIS added their 3
rd solo home run of the afternoon in the top of the 4
th to cut the lead to 5-3.
The Hawks added some insurance runs in the bottom of the 8
th inning. Napleton hit his 2
nd home run of the afternoon, then two batters later,
Joe Roscetti sent a pitch over the right field wall. The Prairie Stars got two runs back in the top of the 9
th, but it was not enough.
