St. Charles, MO - The Quincy University men's volleyball team closes the Lindenwood Invitational against Lincoln Memorial University, Sunday (Mar. 13). The Hawks started slow and lost the first two sets of the game but flipped the score after winning three sets in a row to take the match. 19-25, 21-25, 25-21, 26-24, and 20-18.
Quincy's offense had a rough start which led to falling two sets to nothing.Â
For the third set the Hawks had a different approach and turned around the game. Lincoln scored first and kept a 3-2 lead over Quincy. Nathan Lawton shot a bullet to record a kill and the tie point for the Hawks, and quickly gave Quincy the lead with an ace service point right after, 4-3. The Hawks did not give up the lead for the rest of the set and won by a 25-21 score. (2-1 sets)
The Railsplitters took on an early 9-3 lead in the fourth set. The Hawks did not give up and closed the score to two points after a big kill by Raje Alleyne, which made it 18-16. Francisco Salinger and Manuel Hernandez made it to a one point difference after each recorded important kills for the Hawks to make it 19-18. Roman Deryckère scored a service ace to tie the game to 20. Both teams went on a three points rally to change the score to 23-23. Hernandez recorded another kill to tie the game 24-24, and was followed by two errors from the Railsplitters to give Quincy a 26-24 win and tie the game at two sets each.
Quincy took an early 3-1 lead to start the fifth and last set of the game. Both teams went back and forth for the entire set until Quincy gave up the lead after a couple of errors which made the score 17-16. Alleyne and Salinger both scored crucial kills for Quincy to gain back the lead and take the win after an attack error from Lincoln. 20-18 was the final score and Quincy took the victory after being down two sets by winning three sets in a row.
