COLUMBUS, GA – The Hawks took a trip south to begin a four game series with the Columbus State University Cougars for the 1
st time in school history and took the opening game by the score of 15-3.
Quincy struck early and often during the opening game of the series. In the top of the 1
st,
Lance Logsdon hit a 2 out double. The next batter up,
Austin Simpson blasted a 2 run home run for his 1
st of the year to make it 2-0 Hawks.
In the top of the 2
nd,
Luke Napleton and
Joe Roscetti found open space in the outfield with singles, respectfully. Then,
Brock Boynton found a hole on the left side of the infield for an RBI single, which made it 3-0 Quincy over Columbus State. With the Cougars batting,
Spencer Walker only surrendered one run with the bases loaded on a walk. The very next batter, he was able to induce a pop up to escape any further damage.
With Quincy leading 3-1 through 2 innings,
Zach Parks caught a break as the 2
nd baseman could not complete the throw, which would score two runs. That error which occurred with 2 outs, would see the Hawks take a commanding 5-1 lead.
We move to the top of the 5
th, sophomore
Luke Napleton, got in the RBI trend as he would score
Lance Logsdon on the single to the left side of the infield. This would be their 5
th run scored with 2 outs in an inning.
The Hawks would add another run in the next frame as
Dayson Croes mustered a ball to right field for an RBI single to make the score 7-1 Hawks.
In the top of the 8
th, the Hawk bats would continue to produce.
Dayson Croes hard shot back to the pitcher, which resulted in an error. That error would score
Gino D'Alessio to make it 8-1 Hawks. The next batter up in
Lance Logsdon would extend the lead to 9-1 on an RBI single. The inning would wrap up with the Hawks leading 13-1 after sending 12 men to the plate.
Cruz Meier would take the mound in the bottom of the 8
th in relief of
Spencer Walker. Walker's day ended after 7 innings, striking out 5 and allowing just one earned run. During the inning, the Cougars would add two runs to make it 13-3 on a throwing error by
Gino D'Alessio.
With 2 outs in the top of the 9
th,
Luke Napleton hit a moon shot to straight away center field for a 2 run home run to extend the lead out to 15-3.
