Hawks and Cougars meet for 1st time in school history, Hawks strike early and often

COLUMBUS, GA – The Hawks took a trip south to begin a four game series with the Columbus State University Cougars for the 1st time in school history and took the opening game by the score of 15-3.

Quincy struck early and often during the opening game of the series. In the top of the 1st, Lance Logsdon hit a 2 out double. The next batter up, Austin Simpson blasted a 2 run home run for his 1st of the year to make it 2-0 Hawks.

In the top of the 2nd, Luke Napleton and Joe Roscetti found open space in the outfield with singles, respectfully. Then, Brock Boynton found a hole on the left side of the infield for an RBI single, which made it 3-0 Quincy over Columbus State. With the Cougars batting, Spencer Walker only surrendered one run with the bases loaded on a walk. The very next batter, he was able to induce a pop up to escape any further damage.

With Quincy leading 3-1 through 2 innings, Zach Parks caught a break as the 2nd baseman could not complete the throw, which would score two runs. That error which occurred with 2 outs, would see the Hawks take a commanding 5-1 lead.

We move to the top of the 5th, sophomore Luke Napleton, got in the RBI trend as he would score Lance Logsdon on the single to the left side of the infield. This would be their 5th run scored with 2 outs in an inning.

The Hawks would add another run in the next frame as Dayson Croes mustered a ball to right field for an RBI single to make the score 7-1 Hawks.

In the top of the 8th, the Hawk bats would continue to produce. Dayson Croes hard shot back to the pitcher, which resulted in an error. That error would score Gino D'Alessio to make it 8-1 Hawks. The next batter up in Lance Logsdon would extend the lead to 9-1 on an RBI single. The inning would wrap up with the Hawks leading 13-1 after sending 12 men to the plate.

Cruz Meier would take the mound in the bottom of the 8th in relief of Spencer Walker. Walker's day ended after 7 innings, striking out 5 and allowing just one earned run. During the inning, the Cougars would add two runs to make it 13-3 on a throwing error by Gino D'Alessio.
