Romeoville, IL - The Quincy University men's lacrosse team earned its first program win on Sunday (Feb. 13) as they topped Wheeling 13-3 behind Jordan Ernst's program-record six goal performance.
The Hawks took no mercy starting the first quarter and led 5-0 after the opening period. Four different Hawks scored with Ernst having two goals and Blaine Lowrance, Christian Czarny, and Jayme Brain with one each in the opening frame.
To start the second period, Quincy continued the rally scoring three more goals to make it 8-0. Gage Evans, Ernst, and Jared Shulin all scored once with this being the third goal of the game for Ernst. Wheeling scored their first goal of the game before the first half ended and the Hawks held an 8-1 lead at the intermission.
In the second half of the game with only one minute played, Ernst scored his fourth goal of the game to stretch Quincy's lead to 9-1. Wheeling scored one more time but Preston Willman responded right after with another goal for the Hawks to give QU a 10-2 lead.
Quincy scored again in the fourth period as Lowrance and Ernst fired a goal each to make the lead 12-2 for QU. Not long after the Cardinals scored their last goal of the game, Ernst had one more shot left and with only 42 seconds left as Ray Lingard maneuvered a great pass to Ernst, who fired his sixth goal of the game to give the Hawks a 13-3 win over the Cardinals.
The Hawks will resume action next with their first home event against Benedictine College on Wednesday (Feb. 16) at 3:00 PM at QU Stadium.
