The Quincy University men's volleyball team fell to Missouri Valley College 3-2 in a tense match at Pepsi Arena on Friday (Jan 28) evening.

1st Set

The opening set started well for the Hawks, gaining the first point of the game on an MVC attack error and later getting the first kill of the game from Francisco Salinger. However, despite the good start and some clean ball, the Vikings were ultimately more successful offensively, out-killing the Hawks 15-10 during the match, which ended 25-22 MVC.

2nd Set
Â
Set number two went much better for QU, with an opening kill from Nathan Lawton setting the stage for a dominant offensive performance. By the time the set ended, the Hawks had managed nearly twice as many kills as the Vikings, with the final score being 25-18 QU.

3rd Set

The third set was a turning of fortunes, with the Vikings opening with a strong offensive streak, with the Hawks falling behind 4-1 early, with their one point coming from a service error. They were unable to gain the lead during the set, with the final score being 25-19 MVC.

4th Set

The penultimate set started well for QU, gaining two quick points on a kill from Manuel Hernandez and an attack error. And though the Vikings outperformed the Hawks offensively, they made a total of ten attack errors during the set, leading to QU taking the point with a final score of 25-22.

5th Set
Â
The final set also started well for the Hawks, gaining a 3-1 lead on a series of errors. However, despite the game staying close, the Vikings scored one kill more than the Hawks (along with a service ace) ultimately sealed their victory, winning the set 17-15 and the game 3-2.

Nathan Lawton led the Hawks with 19 points and 18 kills, with Manuel Hernandez scoring 17 points with 13 kills and Francisco Salinger scoring 15.5 points with 13 kills.
