QUINCY, Ill. - The QU tennis teams hit the court to kick off Homecoming weekend in a non-conference matchup against Missouri Valley College on Thursday (Sept. 30). The women's team got the victory 4-3 while the men were swept, 7-0.
Laila Leist-Alston kept her hot streak going with another win in singles action, 6-1, 6-0. Leist-Alston also paired with
Steffi Lao in doubles and picked up a dominating 6-0 win.
Steffi Lao also won her singles match 7-5, 6-2 to go undefeated on the day.
Juliana Vidal won 6-3, 6-2 and
Paula Martinez won a thriller 6-1, 4-6, 6-4 to cap off the wins for the Hawks.
On the men's side, QU was unable to take a point,
Brenden Everhart fought hard in the number two singles match. Everhart took Kaito Tanitsu to three sets after falling 6-3 in the first set. Everhart took the second, 7-6, then came up short in a marathon 10-8 third set.
The tennis team will hold an intrasquad Homecoming scrimmage at Reservoir Park tomorrow afternoon at 2:00 PM.
