ALLENDALE, MI. - The Quincy University men's tennis team competed at the Midwest ITA Regional hosted by Grand Valley State over the weekend. Nearly every DII men's tennis program in the region was in attendance.
Quincy's
Zach Willing made it to the men's singles C-Draw consolation final before falling in the final match, 6-2, 6-3.
Ivan Mimica made a deep run in the men's singles main C-Draw as he played all the way to the quarterfinals. Mimica picked up a win on Friday and Saturday morning before being knocked out on Saturday afternoon in the quarterfinal round.
The pairing of
Samuele Contestabile and
Sebastian Gomez played their way to the men's doubles B-Draw semifinal but fell just short of making the finals after an 8-2 defeat in the semifinal match.
"I think this was good for the guys to come experience, " said head coach
Ethan Arns. "There's tough competition and (almost) every DII school in the Midwest was here, so it was good for us to come in and compete."
The tennis team will be back in action this coming Thursday (Sept. 30) when QU hosts Missouri Valley at Reservoir Park. Doubles play will begin at 2:00 PM with singles to follow.
