Women's Soccer Starts Fast In 3-1 Win Over SBU

Quincy, Ill. – The QU women's soccer team wasted no time finding the net after they scored less than four minutes into Friday night's contest against the Southwest Baptist Bearcats. The tandem of Lauren Crane and Riley Hayes had a goal and assist each while Maddie Bauer scored in the 80th minute to lead the Hawks to a 3-1 victory.

Lightening struck quickly when Riley Hayes made a run along the outer right side of SBU's goalie box. The senior striker found a surging Lauren Crane from the middle of the field and beat the keeper to secure her fourth goal of the season. QU led 1-0 in the fourth minute.

The Hawk offense was all over the field after sending a total of nine shots in the first forty-five and maintained that pressure with nine more in the second half. Of QU's 19 total shots, eight were on goal.

In the 24th minute, the roles were reversed as Riley Hayes was on the scoring end of the Hawks' second goal with the assist coming from Crane. On the other end of the field, the Hawks' back line and midfield play allowed just two shots after the second goal up until halftime with none on goal. The Hawks led 2-0 at the intermission.

SBU got one in the 54th minute to make it 2-1, but QU stayed the course and put two quick shots on goal. Jessica Felix and Hayes were unable to cash in, but in the 80th minute, Maddie Bauer put the game away with a goal to the lower right on an assist from Britini Bailey

Down the Stretch
The Hawks picked up the 3-1 win and have won their last three games as well as four of their last five. Their next game will come against Drury (4-5-3) this Sunday at noon on Senior Day. The Panthers are currently 10th in the GLVC standings and are fighting for a playoff spot down the stretch. The Hawks (7-3-2) are currently fifth in the conference and only have Sunday's game and a matchup with Missouri S&T next Friday remaining on the regular season schedule.
