QUINCY, Ill. – The QU tennis program picked up a pair of wins on Friday afternoon as the men's team swept Grand View 7-0 first, and the women's team followed them with a 6-1 win over Truman State.
The men's squad completed a clean sweep of the Vikings on Friday afternoon as every Hawk won their match.
Erik Weiler led things off with a 6-2, 3-6, 7-6 win in the number one singles slot. Sebastin Gomez won the number two match 6-4, 6-3, and
Brenden Everhart won in the three spot, 6-3, 6-1.
Luca Cantale,
Samuele Contestabile, and
Ettore Pavesi rounded out singles play with wins as Contestabile and Pavesi both won 6-0, 6-1.
In doubles, Pavesi and Everhart won in the top doubles match 6-3. Weiler and
Zach Willing won the second doubles matchup 6-4, and Cantale paired with Contestabile won in sweeping fashion, 6-0.
On the women's side,
Laila Leist-Alston continued her dominance with a 6-2, 6-1 win in the top singles match.
Makaela Hampton won the number two singles match in comeback fashion, 5-7, 6-2, 6-3.
Steffi Lao swept the number three's match 6-0, 6-0, and
Nicole Lao won 6-0, 6-2.
Annie McGinnis rounded out singles play with a 6-2, 6-2 win.
In doubles, the Hawks made quick work of the Bulldogs and won all three matchups. Leist-Alston and
Nicole Lao won 6-3 in the top doubles match, Hampton and
Steffi Lao won 6-1 in the number two doubles pairing, and the team of McGinnis and
Noni Updyke won 6-2 to seal round out the Friday sweep for the QU tennis program.
Both teams will play this coming Thursday (April 7) against Missouri Baptist in Reservoir Park at 1:00 PM.
