QUINCY, IL – The Quincy Baseball team picked up 9-2 and 19-6 victories against Truman State University on Friday (April 2) afternoon.
Game 1
Quincy wasted no time as
Dayson Croes blasted a two run homerun in the top of the first inning to make the score 2-0.
Nolan Wosman added to the lead in the second by reaching on an error which scored
Brock Boynton, and Logsdon smashed a grand slam later in the inning to give QU a 7-0 lead.
Dayson Croes had an RBI double in the third to give QU a 8-0 lead, and then Logsdon scored on an error in the fourth and the Hawks led 9-0.
Logsdon also tossed four scoreless innings and recorded seven strikeouts and allowed zero walks while just surrendering one hit.
Spencer Walker followed with three innings and four strikeouts with no walks. Walker allowed two Bulldogs to score in the seventh and QU won 9-2. QU had 13 hits, four for extra bases, in the first game of the day. QU had 11 strikeouts compared to zero walks on the mound as well during the win.
Game 2
Truman struck first with three runs in the top of the first inning, and held a 3-0 advantage before QU came to the plate. QU scored two runs in the bottom of the first on a Wosman two run homerun to make the score 3-2. Quincy did not trail for long as the offense exploded for a combined 16 runs in the second and third inning.
Justin Eads started things off with a three run homerun to left field on a 1-2 pitch to give QU a 5-3 lead.
Dayson Croes doubled, Logsdon reached on an error, and
Gino D'Alessio had a sacrifice fly to give the Hawks a 9-3 lead after the second inning. The Bulldogs answered with one run in the top of the third, but Quincy erupted for a nine run inning in the following frame. Logsdon reached on an error and Nielsen singled to drive him in which gave QU a 11-4 lead. Eads and Boynton had RBI walks, and then
Jacob Kalusniak and Croes had RBI hits and QU led 18-4 after the third. Truman knocked a homerun in the fourth to make the score 18-6, and Quincy rounded out its scoring with a
Charlie Stuart single in the fifth which gave Quincy a 19-6 lead.
