ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – The Quincy University men's volleyball team entered the first round of the MIVA Tournament at No. 4 Lewis University on Saturday night (April 10). The Hawks fell in three sets, 25-20, 25-21, 25-15.
Set 1
After the Flyers scored the first two points of the set, the Hawks answered back with a kill by Omari Wheeler and a service ace by Eddie Jakubauskas to tie it 2-2. Lewis scored four consecutive points to take a 6-2 lead, and the Hawks trailed the rest of the first frame. QU drooped the opening set, 25-20.
Set 2
Quincy gained the first point on a service error from the Flyers. After this both teams battled point-for-point as the score was later tied, 7-7. The Flyers gained some distance with four straight points to take an 11-7 lead. Lewis continued to stretch that lead until the score reached 16-11. The Hawks were able to fight back and tied the game 20-20 forcing the Flyers to use both of their timeouts. QU was not able to keep the fire going and Lewis regrouped after the Quincy run to secure a 25-21 win.
Set 3
The Flyers took an early 3-1 lead in the third set. The Hawks once again fought back and tied the game 4-4. Quincy tied it again at five apiece with a kill by Zach Reider. After this point by QU, Lewis scored five straight to make it 10-5. The Hawks were not able to close that gap and were taken down, 25-15, in the final set.
