Hawks Drop Game One, Game Two To Be Resumed Tomorrow Before Series Finale at S&T

ROLLA, MO--- The Quincy university baseball team continued its GLVC series at Rolla vs Missouri S&T with a double header on Saturday. 

Game 1
The Hawks went down in order in the top of the first, and the Miners notched four his in the home half of the first which scored three runs and S&T led 3-0 after one inning. Lance Logsdon and Michael Nielsen had knocks in the second inning, but three were left on base. S&T responded with two more hits in the second inning which drove in another run and the Miners held a 4-0 lead after two frames. Logsdon had another hit in the third, but two more QU runners were left on base during the third inning. The Miners were held off the scoreboard in the third after two hits but both were left on base. The Hawks got on the scoreboard in the fifth after Dayson Croes walked, and Lance Logsdon launched a homerun to center field and QU trailed 4-2 after the fifth inning. 

Cole Evans doubled, and then Brock Boynton reach on a hit by pitch to begin the sixth inning which knocked the Miners starter out of the game. Dayson Croes grounded out, and Quincy only trailed 4-3 after the sixth inning. Quincy tied the game on a Eric Tipton infield single which scored Michael Nielsen to make the score 4-4. S&T brought in a pinch hitter, and he hit a single through the left side to execute a walk off victory 5-4. 

Game 2 
The Hawks had five runs on six hits, including RBI singles from Joe Roscetti, Nolan Wosman, and Lance Logsdon in the first and led 5-0 after one half inning. Starting pitcher John Hurayt had a cushion and had a clean first inning. QU added two more runs in the second with RBI hits from Wosman and Gino D'Alessio and led 7-0 after two innings.  S&T had two hits in the third inning and scored two runs to make the score 7-2. Nielsen hit a homerun in the fourth inning to extend QU's advantage to 8-2. The Miners scored three runs on a double to left field with two outs in the fourth inning to come within three runs at 8-5 after four innings. Westphal led off the fifth with a double, and then the Hawks hammered five hits in a six at bat span, including a two run homerun from Nielsen. Westphal came to the plate again and singled to drive in D'Alessio in the fifth, and the Hawks scored six runs while leaving two on base and led 14-5 headed to the bottom of the fifth. 

With two outs into the bottom of the fifth, a rain delay occurred. The Hawks will pickup where they left off tomorrow at noon to resume the game.

The Hawks cap-off its series with Missouri S&T tomorrow (March 28) at 12:00 PM resuming game three of the series, and then the series finale will follow.
