QUINCY, Ill. – The Quincy University women's volleyball team had two play two games in one day for the final time this regular season as they faced #13 Southern Indiana and Drury University on Saturday (March 20). The Hawks blew past USI in straight sets then took down the Panthers in four sets to sweep the day.
Game 1
Through the first thirteen points of the early morning matchup, Quincy edged the Eagles 7-6. QU rallied off the next three points on an ace from Knoblauch, a strike from
Alyssa Grimm, and a USI attacking error to move ahead 10-6.
Midway through the set, the Hawks' lead grew to as many seven at 17-10. USI clawed back after a service ace put them within two later on, 23-21. QU responded with their defense and forced two attacking errors to close the set out, 25-22.
The next two sets Quincy would impose their will by holding USI to a .154 hitting percentage in set two and .189 percentage in set three. The Hawks combined for 31 kills in the final two sets and finished the contest attacking at .238 clip.
Quincy toughed out a close set two win, 27-25, then took the third set by a score of 25-20.
Game 2
In the first set of game two, QU scored 27 points behind 18 team kills. Late in the set, the Hawks trailed by one, but QU rallied off the final three points behind two
Mattie Norris kills and a Panther attacking error. Quincy took set one, 27-25.
In set two the Hawks continued to get after it offensively and swung a .323 hitting percentage. On the defensive side, Quincy held Drury to just .053 percent. QU also collected three blocks and forced nine attacking errors. The Hawks closed the set by scoring seven of the final nine points which secured set two, 25-15.
The Panthers bounced back in a hard-fought third set winning, 25-23.
Quincy maintained their composure and came out firing in the fourth and final. The Hawks jumped out to 12-6 advantage, and hit the ball at a .306 clip. Quincy went on to close out the final set, 25-15 behind 14 team kills, five team blocks, and caused nine Drury attacking errors.
