INDIANAPOLIS, IN. – The Quincy women's volleyball split a pair of GLVC contests against Missouri S&T and University of Indianapolis Saturday evening (Mar. 13). The Hawks fell 3-1 to the Miners then bounced back with a four-set win over the Greyhounds.
Game 1
The Quincy attack was hot early when consecutive kills from
Mattie Norris put the Hawks ahead, 10-4. Knoblauch connected with
Alyssa Grimm and
Sydney Clark to force a Miners timeout as QU led 17-12.
Out of the break momentum shifted as S&T rallied off seven of the next ten points putting them in reach at 21-19. The Hawks ended the first set with back-to-back blocks and took set one 25-21.
Sets two and three belonged to the Miners as Quincy tallied their lowest hitting percentage of the season of, -0.063 and recorded only five kills in set three. S&T capitalized on the offensive struggles of the Hawks taking set two, 25-17 and set three, 25-12.
Trailing two sets to one, the Hawks came out with an improved attack tallying 14 kills, their highest of the match. Ultimately, the Miners were able to match QU and won the game with a fourth set victory, 25-22.
Game 2
A higher sense of urgency was present in game two for Quincy as they hit .313 as a team and collected 17 kills.
Emily Rehagen paced the Hawks with seven kills hitting an efficient .400 percent. The offensive pressure set the tone as QU ran away with set one, 25-19.
In set two, the Hawks were hindered by attacking errors after recording ten compared to the Greyhounds' two. Quincy did attack at a high clip with 19 kills, but the effort fell short, 25-22.
Responding in set three, Quincy scored the first nine points of the set behind five forced attacking errors, causing UIndy to burn a timeout trailing 9-0. The early run was too much for the Greyhounds to overcome, as the final points came on back-to-back kills from Norris to give the Hawks a 25-20 set victory.
The fourth set was highly contested through and through. Quincy gained a slight 16-13 advantage after attacks from
Kymbra Kirby and Norris were followed by a service ace from
Sarah Blair. Uindy then scored five of the next seven points tying the set at 18-18.
A few points later, the game was knotted at 24 apiece.
Makayla Knoblauch connected with
Sydney Clark for a strike to set up match point.
Sarah Blair closed things out with a service ace, giving the Hawks a 26-24 victory to round out the weekend.
