ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Quincy University women's volleyball team dropped their first contest of the season against 18th-ranked Missouri-St. Louis Tritons on Saturday (Feb.6) in St. Louis. The Hawks were swept in straight sets 25-22, 25-18, 25-15.
Set 1
The opening set was a grind for both teams that saw 10 lead changes and 13 ties. The turning point came with a Tritons two point run giving them a 23-20 advantage. They would go on to win the set 25-22.
Set 2
The Tritons jumped out to a 4-1 lead to open the second set but QU answered back with a kill by Sarah Brown that sparked a three point run by the Hawks to tie things up at 4 apiece. Quincy would knot up the score again at 8-8 off a kill by Mattie Norris but it was all Tritons after that opening a three point lead that would grow to seven giving the Tritons a 25-18 set victory and a 2-0 lead in the match.
Set 3
The Hawks showed some life to start the final set with Sarah Brown firing down her team leading 11th kill to tie things at 2-2 early in the action. UMSL answered back shortly after with a six-point run. This run proved to be the final blow for the Hawks who got outhit by 200 percentage points in a convincing 25-15 final set loss and a straight set match victory for the Tritons over the previously unbeaten Hawk squad.
