Quincy, Ill - The Quincy University women's volleyball team returned home to play Maryville on Friday night (Feb. 12) as the Hawks swept the Saints (25-13, 25-23, 25-18) and picked up their fourth win of the season to move to 4-1. QU showed off a balanced offensive attack with four players recording over five kills each.
1st Set
QU started the game aggressively as they took an early 9-2 lead in the first set. The Hawks continued to extend their lead later on when the score reached 13-4. Quincy won the opening set, 25-13, as QU recorded a .405 hitting percentage with 18 kills.
2nd Set
The Saints hung tough with QU in the second set as neither team gained a significant lead. The Saints and the Hawks fought point-for-point until QU gained a 20-17 lead. This slight advantage was enough for the home Hawks to hold on for the second set win, 25-23.
3rd Set
QU was determined to end the match in the third set as they started off with a 3-0 lead. After this, the Hawks did not allow Maryville to comeback despite the Saints tying the score at 4-4 and 6-6. The Hawks put their foot on the gas pedal and gained their largest lead of the set, 21-13. QU won set three 25-18 and ended with a .351 hitting percentage.
Dating back to 2014, the Hawks have taken 26 straight sets from Maryville. Tonight, QU had four players with over five kills. Emily Rehagen collected 12, Mattie Norris had 10, while Sarah Brown and Alyssa Grimm each had six.
