Quincy, Ill - After sweeping the Saints of Maryville University just a day ago, the No.9 Quincy University women's volleyball team (5-1, 3-1 GLVC) maintained their momentum into Saturday's showdown against the Lindenwood Lions (1-2, 1-2 GLVC) Saturday evening (Feb. 13). The Hawks swept for the second consecutive night on the home hardwood 25-11, 25-20, 25-22.
1st Set
Despite the Lions leaping to a 4-3 lead to start the set, Senior libero Sarah Blair supplied a service ace which initiated their supremacy the rest of the set. QU launched to a 9-5 lead after Junior outside Mattie Norris pounded it through a herd of Lions as it forced them to take a timeout. QU continued to be in control after going on an 8-0 run to make it 19-9. Norris and Sophomore outside Emily Rehagen recorded four kills apiece during the frame. The Hawks hit .292, tallied three blocks, and limited the Lions to a -.107 attacking percentage in the first set.
2nd Set
QU controlled the second set after applying a 9-6 advantage. The Lions were unable to cut the deficit by fewer than three points for the rest of the stanza. Junior setter Makayla Knoblauch set up her teammates all night in Pepsi Arena while providing 13 of her 37 assists in the second set. She also dropped a perfectly placed ball that secured the second set. This gave the Hawks an opportunity to sweep for the second night in a row.
3rd Set
The Hawks continued to play with power in the third set to outlast the Lions. The third frame was tied 13 different times before the Hawks hunted back to take a 17-15 lead. The Lions responded and tied the set for the 14th time at 17-17. Quincy answered with a 3-0 run capped off by a Rehagen service ace. Norris added a kill to give QU a 21-18 lead. Rehagen concluded the match with two kills as the Hawks earned their fifth win of the 2021 campaign.
